Mrs. Luessie Barbara Mitchell Sowell was born in Wichita, KS on December 29, 1933 to Rev. Elliott Dupree Mitchell and Zenobia Odom.
She departed this life peacefully at the age of 80, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in W-S on February 18, 2014.
She served others in her occupation as a nurse. Her life was a testament of faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Leamon Riley Sowell Sr., with whom she raised five children.
Mrs. Sowell is survived by her children Leamon Sowell Jr. (LaVerne), Zenobia Sowell-Bianchi (Tony), Deborah Sowell-Cromartie, Rebekah Sowell-Ratliff (Cecil) and Stefany Sowell–McDuffie (Ronald); four grandchildren, Alexis Sowell, David Sowell, Jazmin Cromartie, and Camron Ratliff; one brother, Elliott Mitchell; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will respect their mother's wishes and a memorial service will be held at 4pm Saturday, February 22, 2014 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel.
