Louise Tyler Nivens, aged 93, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, was born on March 14, 1931, and departed this life on July 15, 2024. She graduated from Atkins High School Class of 1949, then briefly trained in the art of stenography. Louise ultimately retired from her role as a lab technician with Forsyth Memorial Hospital after more than thirty years of service. A charter member of Goler Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church, she faithfully served on the Usher Board and the Women's Home and Overseas Missionary Society. Although Louise deeply valued Winston Salem as her home, she enjoyed traveling with her cousins Johnny and Bea Canty, as well as beloved coworkers and friends. Her travels took her to destinations around the world, among her favorites being the Caribbean and the Hawaiian Islands.

Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Nivens; son, Walter Nivens; and daughter, Andrea Nivens.

She is survived by one daughter, Wanda Fletcher; three sons, Gregory Nivens, Edray Nivens, and Melvin Nivens; as well as first cousins, Lillian Weathers and Hester Young; Mrs. Nivens valued family ties, showing unwavering affection toward her grandchildren, Camille (Darryl) Banks Prince, Natalie (Dwayne) Welcome, Eric Banks, Victor Doe, MyLinda Fletcher, Zachary Fletcher, Gerrard Nivens, Bryan Nivens, Nazarey Nivens, and Zehalo Nivens; six great-grandsons; her daughter-in-law, Marguerite Nivens; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Sunday, July 21, 2024 at Russell Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 12noon Monday, July 22, 2024 at Goler Metropolitan AME Zion Church.  Interment will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.  The family visitation will be held from 11:30am until 12noon on Monday at the Church.
