Mrs. Louise Elizabeth Martin Wright, a native of Winston-Salem, NC was born October 11, 1919 to the late Jessie Banks Miller Robinson and Sam Henry Lawson. She transitioned into eternal life on December 16, 2011 at Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, NC. She was 92 years old.
Mrs. Wright was preceded in death by her sister, the late Nannie B. Martin. She and her husband of 61 years, James Nathaniel Wright, Sr., who preceded her in death on July 13, 1999, were the parents of seven children, John Martin (Hyacinth), New Haven, CT; the late Carl B. Wright (Geneva), Owings Mill, MD; James N. Wright, Jr. (Linda), Rural Hall, NC; Kay W. Norman (Dr. Bryant), Salisbury, NC; the late Michael N. Wright, Winston-Salem; Nancy W. Green, Winston-Salem; and the late Kenneth S. Wright of Winston-Salem. They were foster parents for over five years to 12 children.
Their union was further blessed by 14 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, one great- great granddaughter, a very special cousin (son), Paul Wharton (Renee), Jessup, MD. Her family fondly called her "Lib", "Muh", "Yo", "Mother", Nana", "Gran'MaMa", and "Grandmother". Her many friends called her "Mother Wright". She mothered a host of godchildren including Mary Wilds, Dr. Sadie B. Webster, and Ms. Lillie B. Wilson of Winston-Salem and Francine Craige, a dedicated companion, of Salisbury, NC. Mrs. Rossie McNeill of Winston-Salem was her dearest friend.
Mrs. Wright was well-known for her missionary spirit. She responded with numerous acts of kindness and caring to the needs of family, neighbors, and friends. As a devoted member of Dreamland Park Baptist Church for over 60 years, Mrs. Wright served as a youth advisor; director and advisor of the Youth Choir; leader of the Youth/ Young Adult Missionary departments; President of the Senior Missionary Ministry; President of the Senior Choir and the church financial secretary. Mrs. Wright was a Sunday School teacher for the junior, intermediate, and adult classes, and she remained the Adult class teacher until her health declined.
Mrs. Wright was a member of the Bowen Park Cooperative Community Club serving as its president for several years and was a member of the Carver Senior Citizen Club. She relocated to Salisbury making her home with Dr. Bryant and Kay W. Norman, where she remained active in her church and community organizations in Winston-Salem until her health limited her activities.
Mrs. Wright was a devoted servant of the Lord and she exemplified Christian principles by sharing Godly wisdom to her friends, family, and caregivers. She was loved and adored by many but the God she served loved her even more, and in His infinite wisdom, He welcomed her into His kingdom.
The celebration services will be held at 12:30pm Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at Red Bank Baptist Church, 6405 Red Bank Road, Germanton, NC 27019. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held at 11:00am until 12:30pm on Wednesday at the Church.
The family will receive visitors and friends at the home of Dr. Bryant and Mrs. Kay Wright Norman, 155 Dove Lane, Salisbury, NC.
