Obituary

Lou Esther Jackson was born on March 10, 1928, to Robert and Beulah Connor. She was the beloved sister of Freddie, Mary, and Pearlie. A lifelong resident of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Mrs. Jackson dedicated her life to faith, family, service, and community.

She was married to Thomas Jackson, and together they poured love into the lives of countless children in their community. Through her nurturing spirit—feeding, clothing, caring for, and taking children to church—she helped shape generations to love God and grow into respectful, responsible individuals. Her home and heart were always open.

Mrs. Jackson completed her education at Atkins High School and attended Winston-Salem Teachers College (now Winston-Salem State University). She worked faithfully at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in the Radiology and Transportation Departments, where she served for 43 years before retiring. Her work ethic, kindness, and steady presence left a lasting impression on colleagues and friends alike.

A devoted member of St. James A.M.E. Church for over eighty years, Mrs. Jackson served in numerous capacities, including Sunday School secretary and teacher, Women’s Missionary Society secretary and treasurer, Lay secretary, and choir member. She loved her church deeply and lived out her faith daily through service and quiet strength.

Mrs. Jackson was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings; and her husband.

Mrs. Lou Esther Jackson leaves to cherish her precious memory a loving family and a devoted community.

She is survived by a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and countless spiritual sons and daughters whom she nurtured, guided, and helped raise throughout her life.

Her love extended far beyond bloodlines. Through her faith, wisdom, and open heart, she mothered many and leaves behind generations who proudly carry her legacy of strength, service, and devotion.

“Well done, good and faithful servant…enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.” -Matthew 25:23
