Lottie McGee Cunningham was born January 28, 1921 to the late T.S. and Hattie Dean McGee in Anderson, SC. She went home to be with the Lord July 12, 2010 after a brief illness. She was baptized at the age of 11 and became a member of Welfare Baptist Church. She was married to the late James Henry Cunningham and from this union had four children, Harry (Barbara) McGee, Betty (Herbert) Sligh, Larry "Duck" Cunningham, and Darlene Kinchen.
Mrs. Cunningham moved to Winston-Salem, NC in 1945. She joined Second Mt. Zion (now Zion Memorial Missionary Baptist Church) in 1946, where she was a faithful member for 56 years, serving on the Usher Board, working with the missionaries, attending Sunday school, and singing on the Senior and Combined Choirs.
October 31, 2004, she was ordained as a Deaconess at John Wesley AME Zion Church where she served faithfully for 7 years as a Deaconess, Missionary, and Senior Choir member.
She was a charter member and "Mother" of Trinity Chapel Church where Reverend James Gaskins is the Pastor. She served faithfully as a Deaconess, member of the Sunday school, and choir member until her death.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Mabel McGee and Margret Jackson; two brothers, Edward and James H. McGee; her husband; and her son, Harry.
She leaves to cherish her memories two daughters, Betty (Herbert) Sligh and Darlene Kinchen; one son, Larry "Duck" Cunningham; two daughters-in-law, Sarah Rivers and Barbara McGee; four grandchildren; two devoted granddaughters, Karen White(the late Reverend Ralph White, Jr.) and April (Sean) Stanback; one devoted grandson, Michael Kinchen; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, James W. (Ida) Cunningham; several nieces and nephews, among them a devoted niece, Ruby (James) Glaspy; and a host of other relatives and friends.
All services will be held on Thursday, July 15, 2010 at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1075 Shalimar Drive Winston-Salem, NC. The family will receive family and friends at 1pm and the homegoing celebration services will begin at 1:30pm. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens.
