Obituary

Loretta "Lo" Davis Cummings, 77, of Winston-Salem, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 22, 2022. She was born on June 27, 1945 in Winchester, KY to Lillie and James Davis. After attending college in Paducah, KY, Loretta met and married Darryl Cummings, Sr. The couple settled in Rockford, Illinois, and the fruits produced in that union were two children, Darryl Jr. and Rhonda. The couple parted ways in the 1980's, and Loretta moved to Winston-Salem, NC. There she found employment and successfully carried out her responsibilities as a single mom.

Loretta gave her life to Christ at an early age and continued her walk with the Lord after moving to Winston-Salem at Piney Grove Baptist Church, where she happily served as an usher. Loretta worked for Wachovia Bank (now Wells Fargo) for many years. Shortly after retiring, she moved to Ocoee, FL where she lived out the rest of her life. Loretta brought that same spirit of service with her to Florida as she began to attend the First Baptist Church of Central FL. There, she learned sign language and taught Sunday School.

Loretta was preceded in death by her mother and father, Lillie and James Davis; and four sisters, Frances Lay, Clementina Smith, Ethel Jones, and Carrie Smith.

Loretta is survived by her children, Darryl Cummings II of Winston-Salem, NC and Rhonda (Lyndon) Johnson of Winter Garden, FL; her sisters, Julia Hill of Detroit, MI and Rosie (Calvin) Wright of Oakboro, NC; her grandsons, Diatalion Cummings and Miles Cummings of Winston-Salem, NC, and Jadon Johnson of Winter Garden, FL; her great-granddaughter Alena Cummings-Ortiz of Winston-Salem, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Loretta's favorite pastimes were working crossword puzzles and playing solitaire. She was a very determined woman of faith and lived a life above reproach. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Loretta was a praying mother, a loving grandmother, a beloved sister and a faithful friend. The impact of her Christ lived life will continue to affect lives for generations to come.
