Lonnie Gene Segers, Sr. departed this life on Wednesday, January 6, 2010. He was born March 6, 1935, to Eugene and Rebecca Segers in Lancaster, SC.
He attended the public school system of Forsyth County and retired from the North Carolina Department of Correction. He was also a faithful member of Mt. Calvary Holiness Church, Inc. where he served as Senior Trustee, President of the Pastor's Aid Society, Transportation Ministry of the church and was a member of the Church Finance Committee.
His mother and father, two siblings, Curlee and John D. Segers preceded him in death.
He leaves to cherish his memory two sons, Lonnie Gene "Geno" Segers, Jr. of Hoboken, NJ and Dominic Pierre "Niki" Segers of Wilmington, NC; one daughter, Shanesha Walker of Winston-Salem, NC; three grandchildren, Lonnie Gene Segers, III. Savannah Segers, and Dominic Channing Segers; the former Nancy Ellis and her children, Lisa (Ken) Regenthal, Joe Hodges, Paula Boling, and April (James) Joyce; fifteen step-grandchildren; ten great- grandchildren; four brothers, James, William, Milton (Constance) and Truitt Segers, four sisters, Theresa McCullough, Iris Harris, Janet (Ronald) Lockhart, and Cynthia (Noble) Speas.
A homegoing celebration will be held at 2pm Monday, January 11, 2010 at Kimberly Park Holiness Church, 417 Burton Street, Winston-Salem, NC. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 1pm until 2pm on Monday at the Church.
The funeral procession will assemble and leave from 501 W. 26th Street Winston-Salem, NC.
The family would like to thank Nancy Ellis for her dedicated care of Lonnie during his time of need, and the staff at the Derrick Davis Cancer Center, with a special thanks to Dianne, Felicia, and Tamiko.
