Mrs. Lois Virginia Hinson Lewis affectionately known as "Kelly" departed this earthly life Friday, March 23, 2007 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born June 10, 1941 in Monroe, NC to Mr. Lee Hinson and Elder Mildred Robinson.
She attended Atkins High School. Mrs. Lewis was a former employee of Salem College (Epicure Serves) for 15 years. As a dedicated employee, she was admired by her co-workers and the students of Salem College. Later in life, she was employed by private contractors servicing several corporations in Winston-Salem. In 1958, she married Harvey Lewis, Sr. to this union, five children were born. As a young child, she joined Ebenezer Baptist Church. She was actively involved in the youth programs including Sunday school, Baptist Training Union and Vacation Bible School. She was last a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.
Mrs. Lewis was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Lee Lewis, Sr.; mother, Elder Mildred Robinson Hinson; father, Lee Hinson; sister, Mary Cunningham. Mrs. Lewis was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She took the greatest pride in her role as a mother to her five children, whom she loved and cherished. Her grandchildren were also her pride and joy.
She leaves to cherish her memory five children, Harvey Jr. (Catherine) of Columbia, SC, LeCarlos (Sharon) of Walkertown, NC, Ricardo (Edna) of Bloomington, IL, Tanya Mayes (Ricky) of Winston-Salem, NC, and Michael of Woodbridge, VA; 12 grandchildren; two brothers, Jerry (Ruby) Hinson and James Hinson; one sister, Ollie Patricia (Cornelius) Sadler all of Winston-Salem, NC; and a host of other relatives and friends. Bridget Boone was her god-daughter and she maintained a long, lasting friendship with Mildred Smith, a childhood friend.
Funeral services will be held at 1 pm Thursday, March 29, 2007 at Emmanuel Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Family visitation will be held from 12 noon until 1 pm Thursday at the church.
