Obituary

Treasured memories find that on Tuesday, June 1, 1954, the world received Lois Carolyn Hicks, born to Henrietta Benson and John Pearl Hicks, where she attended Shiloh Baptist Church.

Lois attended St. Benedict the Moor Catholic School, graduated from George Washington High School in Danville, VA, and furthered her education at Winston-Salem State University where she graduated in 1977.

She was employed by Northwest Child Development Centers where she rose to the position of Daycare Director.  She later served as the Daycare Director with Beulah Baptist Church where she retired in 2017 to take care of her last granddaughter, Raylyn "Ray-Ray".  Lois truly loved her family, her children, grandchildren, and her two great-grandchildren with unselfish love and attention.

Treasured memories are shared by her loving and devoted children, Sherita R. Hicks, Severus M. Hicks, Shawanna D. Hicks, and Shervae J. Higginbotham; grandchildren, Sha'Quasha D. Hicks, Shayanna L. Hicks, Khalia Q. Belin, Khamari K. Belin, Amani T. Stevenson, Josiah C. Hicks, and Raelyn J. Nicholson; great-grandchildren, Jayden D. Martin and Emerald S.E. Hicks; siblings, Esther E. Hicks and Robert C. Hicks; devoted soulmate and caretaker, Severius H. "Rick" Higginbotham; extended family, Timothy M. Thompson, Lucius Belin, and Ray Nicholson; caregiver, Mariah Hickman; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A viewing will be held from 12noon until 5:00pm Thursday, September 10, 2020 at Russell Funeral Home. Private services will be held Friday, September 11, 2020.  Interment will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
