Mr. Logan Carter Pannell, Sr., 83, passed away on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at Magnolia Creek Assisted Living Facility, where he resided since 2008. He was born April 30, 1928 in Winston-Salem, NC to the late John Henry Pannell, Sr. and Irene Logan Pannell.
He was a graduate of Atkins High School, then went on to attend Wilberforce University, Winston-Salem State University and was a Veteran of the US Army. He worked as a Physics Lab Technician at Wake Forest University.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his former wife, Ardridell Derr Pannell; his daughter, Patricia Ann Pannell Lentz; two brothers, John Henry Pannell, Jr. and George Booie; and two sisters, Otha Pannell Emerson and Theressa Pannell Cambric.
He is survived by three children, Laverne Pannell Carruthers of the city, Brenda Pannell Allen of Washington, DC, and Logan Carter (LaRhonda) Pannell, Jr. of Atlanta, GA; one sister-in-law, Jessie Pannell of the city; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many other relatives.
Funeral Services will be held at 1pm Monday April 16, 2012 at St. James A.M.E. Church, 1501 Patterson Avenue, W-S, NC with Rev. Steven L. Lyons Officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be from 12:30pm until 1pm on Monday at the Church.
The family will receive friends as well as assemble and leave en route to the funeral from the home of his daughter, LaVerne P. Carruthers, 5218 Gnarl Wood Road, Lewisville, NC 27023.
