On Sunday morning, February 24, 2013 following a brief period of illness, our heavenly father called home our greatly loved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.

Mr. Logan Burke was born in Winton, North Carolina to the loving union of Selma and Lillian Burke on October 26, 1933. He was a graduate of C. S. Brown High School. He served in the United States Army. Following his military service, he received a B.S. degree in Education from Winston-Salem State University and his Master's degree from North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, North Carolina. He completed additional study at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he graduated from the Public Administration-Government Executive Institute.

Mr. Burke moved to Winston-Salem and has resided in the Twin City since 1957 with the love of his life, Mayor Pro Tem Vivian Harris Burke and their son, Superior Court Judge L. Todd Burke.

Since arriving in Winston-Salem, Mr. Burke's life has reflected his dedication to education and public service. He worked as a teacher, coach, and athletic director at Carver High School. He also worked as an assistant principal at Lowrance Intermediate School and was principal of L. A. Cook Elementary School. In 1986, he was elected to the North Carolina House of Representatives from Forsyth County, District 67. As a representative, Mr. Burke served on a number of important committees such as the Appropriations Base Budget Committee, the Higher Education Committee, the University Board of Governors' Nominating Committee, and the State Government Committee. His last position was Director of the Teacher Education Service Center at Winston-Salem State University.

Mr. Burke has an extensive record of past and present political and civic involvement. He is a member of the NAACP, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and Grace Presbyterian Church. He also has contributed his expertise to a number of associations and commissions such as, the State Commission on Children and Youth as well as the North Carolina Commission for Exceptional Children.

Mr. Burke leaves to cherish so many wonderful and precious memories his devoted, loving wife and best friend of 58 years, Vivian; his son, Todd and wife Barbara; two grandchildren, Melissa and Logan, II; three brothers, Gene Elliot Burke (Vicki) of Tampa, FL, Fred Allen Burke (D'Walla) of the city, and Lloyd Bennett Burke (Joyce) of Harrellsville, NC; one sister, Lydia Claudette Garrett, of Hampton, VA; two nieces, Teresa and Tammy Burke of the city; in addition to a host of other nieces, nephews, and friends.

Our loved one's kind and pleasant personality made him a wonderful husband, a loving and supportive father, grandfather and friend. We loved him immensely and will cherish his memory forever.

The Omega Psi Phi Memorial Service for Mr. Burke will be held at 11:30 A.M .on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at Grace Presbyterian Church (Carver School Road). The service will be followed by family visitation at noon and the funeral service at 1:30.

In lieu of flowers and food the family request that donations be made to the Logan and Vivian H. Burke endowment at Winston-Salem State University, the Vivian H. Burke Scholarship Fund at Elizabeth City State University, the Athletic Department of Winston-Salem State University or the Academic Growth Foundation at Carver High School.
