Obituary

Linda Ann Clyburn, 75, of Odenton, Maryland, passed away on Monday, September 22, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on December 3, 1949, in Shelby, North Carolina, to Julius and Lou Ivey Barron, Linda lived a life defined by warmth, faith, generosity, and devotion to the people she cherished.

A 1968 graduate of Shelby High School, Linda went on to North Carolina Central University, graduating in 1973. It was there, in 1970, that she met William Clyburn. Their love quickly grew, and on October 23, 1973, they married in Shelby, beginning a lifelong partnership that would carry them through five decades of joy, challenges, and adventure.

As a military family, Linda and William embraced a life of travel and community, making homes in California, Washington, Indiana, Texas, Georgia, Maryland, and even Korea. Wherever she went, Linda built connections and friendships that endured.

In her early years, Linda worked as a schoolteacher, dedicating herself to the children in her classroom. She later served as a claims examiner for the United States Army, a position she held faithfully until her retirement in 2015.

Although Linda's heart and membership remained with Red Bank Baptist Church in North Carolina, she found a church home at Columbia Community Church in Maryland. There she served faithfully in many ways. She baked for the women's ministry, prepared food for repasts, helped organize materials for quarterly women's seminars, and regularly attended Wednesday night Bible study. She had a special love for the youth ministry, often buying gifts for the children and offering donations to support their growth. Linda gave generously of her time, talents, and resources, paying her tithes and serving with quiet joy until her health no longer allowed.

Linda also expressed her love in many ways—through cooking, gardening, and dancing whenever the opportunity arose. She found joy in feeding her family, friends, and church community, and her kitchen was always a place of welcome and warmth. She was also a passionate gardener with an encyclopedic knowledge of flowers and plants. And when the music started—whether it was the Electric Slide or D.C. swing—she never missed a chance to dance. All of these were expressions of a life fully lived.

Preceding Linda in death were her parents, Julius and Lou Ivey.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, William Clyburn, Sr.; children, William Clyburn, Jr. and Tayo (Tara) Clyburn; grandchildren, Savanah Clyburn, Arden Greene, Amaris Greene, Alena Clyburn, and Cameron Clyburn; her siblings, Ted Barron, Larry Barron, Wallace Barron, and Mary McKissick; and many cousins, extended family members, friends, and church family.
