Ms. Lillie Murlean Davis Stevenson, 70, of Winston- Salem, NC departed her earthly life on April 1, 2020. She was born August 19, 1949 in Stanly County, NC to the late Mr. Joe Davis Jr. and Cecelia Crump Davis.
Lillie attended West Badin High School and graduated from North Stanly High School in 1967. She was a graduate of Ashford University and held a bachelor's degree in Health and Human Services. Lillie also held an Associate Degree in Human Service Management that supported her career as a Global Development Career Facilitator.
Lillie was a retired Accountability Coordinator for the City of Winston-Salem Workforce Development Department with 18 years of service. Her department was moved to Northwest Piedmont Council of Governments where she continued her employment for 12 years until she retired in 2014. In her professional career she helped countless people obtain employment and training, while helping to address other needs for people to improve professionally. Lillie was passionate about helping people with their challenges and did all she could to help people to succeed. She recently served as a Substitute Teacher for Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools.
Lillie had an entrepreneurial spirit evidenced by her multiple businesses. She may be best known for her cakes with the business " Cakes by Lillie" as she provided the best cakes for any occasion. She was also known as the owner for " Lillie's Janitorial Service" which had been in business for over 30 years having various contracts throughout the years providing commercial and residential cleaning services.
She was raised in the African Methodist Episcopal Zion (A.M.E. Zion) Church with her beginnings at Cedar Hill A.M.E Zion Church, Ansonville, N.C, and Cedar Grove A.M.E. Zion Church, New London, N.C. Upon moving to Winston Salem, with her love of God and His people, Lillie brought her zeal to work. She joined and remained an active member of Goler Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church. During her time of dedicated service with her "Goler Metropolitan Church Family" she served as a Deaconess, Class Leader, a member of the Health Ministry, Home Missions Department, Willing Workers, and the WHOM Society. She sang on the Young Adult, Cathedral and Gospel Choirs; she attended Sunday school, noon day prayer meetings, Lunch and Learn, and Wednesday night Bible Studies.
She was a member of the Eastern Star Sisters of Bivouac Chapter No.530 PHA. She was serving as the vice president for Precinct 305 working to increase voter registrations and encouraging the community on the importance of voting. She was an avid supporter of My Brother's Second Chance, a member of Silver Sneakers, and participated in a lot of other community activities.
Lillie loved her family. Lillie loved family traditions. She was always a giver and was always matching a gift with "the person who could use it." Along with her oldest sister she would try to pull together activities to bring her family together as their parents did when they lived.
She was the 2nd oldest of 10 children. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Lethia Rae Davis and another sister at infancy; and a brother, Gerald Dean Davis.
Left to cherish the fondest memories are her three sons, Christopher D. Turner, Durham, NC, Antonio L. (Kippi) Stevenson, Clemmons, NC, and Ben E. (April) Stevenson II, Indian Head, MD; four brothers, Forrest (Helen) Davis of New London, NC, Stephen Davis of Badin, NC, Julius (Angela) Davis of Winston-Salem, NC, and Darryl Davis of Pensacola, FL; two sisters, Johanna (Macy) Hinson of New London, NC, Cathy Davis of Pensacola, FL; eight granddaughters, Kali, Amber, Sydney, Lydia, Mahogany, Jayden, Morgan, and Marlee; three great-grandchildren, Kaleb, Kalen and Kalanii; a band of nieces and nephews including a special niece, Latisha Rae Davis of Winston Salem, NC and a longtime friend and cousin Marie Matthews of Winston Salem, NC; along with a host of cousins, colleagues, and friends.
