Obituary

Lillian Underwood Johnson, 93, passed away Saturday, June 28, 2014 in Conyers, GA at the home of her daughter, Audrey Johnson Easter. Lillian Day Underwood was born on January 23, 1921 in Washington, DC. She was adopted by the Underwood's in early childhood and was raised in Asheville, NC.

Lillian married James P. Johnson in 1937 and their union was blessed with four children, Audrey Johnson Easter, Reginald Johnson, Brian Johnson and Sabrina Johnson. They raised their family in Winston-Salem, NC. Lillian, often referred to as "Mother Johnson," worked diligently with her husband in their ministry at Christ Temple Church of God in Christ in Mocksville, NC. They served together "up on the hill" until James' passing in January 1991.

Lillian continued to serve and pastor at Christ Temple after James' passing until her health began to fail in 2008. During her spiritual walk as missionary and pastor, she was often asked to speak at churches throughout North Carolina and was highly respected in the community.

In early 2008, she moved to Conyers Georgia to live with her daughter once her health began to fail. While in Conyers, she faithfully attended Salem Bible Church and quickly became known as "Mother Johnson" there as well. She was a woman of strong faith who truly loved the Lord.

Lillian was the last surviving sibling of 4 brothers and two sisters- Ben Underwood, Eugene Underwood, Henry Underwood, Mary Daye, Raymond Hayes and Helen West Fortune.

She leaves to cherish her memories four children, Audrey Johnson Easter (Harold), Reginald Johnson, Brian Johnson (Daphne), and Sabrina Johnson Simmons; five grandchildren, Danielle Dunson (Sedrick), Lillian Johnson, Brandon Johnson, Joseph Johnson, and Esquire Morrison; four great-grandchildren; and a host of other family members and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 1pm Saturday, July 5, 2014 at New Bethel Baptist Church with Minister Deborah Odom officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 12noon until 1pm on Saturday at the Church.
