On July 27, 2015 God and his infinite wisdom called Lillian Beatrice Payne Banner, better known as "Lillie B", home. She was born March 30, 1939 to David and Katie Payne in W-S, NC.
Lillie B attended the local public schools of W-S, NC, was a longtime member of Shiloh Baptist Church, and later joined Greater Cleveland Avenue Christian Church. She was also a member of the S&K Classic Ladies and was the owner and operator of B's Decorating and Cleaning Services.
In addition to her parents, Lillie B was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Banner; son, Kenneth Payne; grandson, Kenneth Payne, Jr.; two brothers, David Duncan, Sr. and Ronald Payne; and three sisters, Roslyn Payne, Sharon P. Coggins, and Mary P. Jones.
She leaves to cherish her memories four sons, Waddell (Vickie) Boyd, Jr., Kevin (Kim) Banner, Ricky Banner, and Toma (Monica) Banner; three daughters, Beverly (Donnell) McDaniel, Vernetta Banner, and Tina Banner all of the city; daughter-in-law, Anna Payne; 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; brother, Karl (Bobbieta) Payne; three sisters, Jackie P. (Willie) Brooks, Sophia (Thomas) Payne-Drake, and Katrina Payne; five sisters-in-law, Ida Duncan, Sharon Caldwell, Beverly (Roger) Whitsett, Kathy (Rick) Woods all of the city, and Vivian Payne of Orlando, FL; two brothers-in-law, Milton Jones of the city and Kenneth (Ann) Banner of Greensboro, NC; two God-daughters, Sonia Duncan and Catherine Johnson both of the city; aunt, Edith Payne of the city; lifelong childhood friends, Romaine Eaton and Mary Elizabeth Hardy of the city; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12noon Monday, August 3, 2015 at Greater Cleveland Avenue Christian Church with Bishop Sheldon McCarter officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 12noon on Monday at the Church.
