Obituary

Mrs. Lila M. Davis entered into eternity on Monday, December 24, 2007 at the Britthaven Nursing Home of Kernersville, NC.

Mrs. Davis was born to John Levitt and Rosa Moore on March 30, 1914 in Chester, SC. She was the youngest of five children. Mrs. Davis was a retired employee of the Winston Leaf Tobacco Company and the Union Baptist Church Day Care Center. She spent most of her life in Winston-Salem, having been an original resident of "the Pond".

Mrs. Davis was affectionately known as "Momma Lila" to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all of her family and friends. She was one of the founding members of Union Baptist Church and served there for over 70 years. Mrs. Davis loved the Lord and was a dedicated church member. She was the founder and President of the Effort Aid Club until the early 1980's. As a church leader and teacher, Mrs. Davis mentored and counseled many of the youth. She also served faithfully on the Senior Usher Board, the Senior Missionary, and in her early years, served as one of the directors of the Junior Usher Board.

Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Mr. Harrison Edward Davis; her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. Gerald Timothy Caldwell, Sr., and Mrs. Madie Louise Hall Caldwell; grandson, Theodore L. Caldwell; and her siblings, John Quincy Moore, Theodore Moore, Ruby Moore, and an elder sister.

Mrs. Davis leaves to cherish fond memories two granddaughters, Linda (Emmett) Hopkins of Greensboro, NC and Veronica Faye (Robert) Jordan of Clinton, MD; four grandsons, Alan (Lisa) Caldwell of Kernersville, NC, Jerald Timothy (Vanessa) Caldwell, Jr. of Charlotte, NC, Michael Caldwell of Greensboro, NC, and Edward (Deborah) Caldwell of Cincinnati, OH; 15 great-grandchildren, Christopher (Stephanie) Caldwell of Salisbury, NC, Skyla Caldwell of Charlotte, NC, Jazmin Caldwell of Orlando, FL, Tyler and Lauren Caldwell of Kernersville, NC, Kevin Hopkins of Greensboro, NC, Yolonda (Corey) Burgess of Randleman, NC, Erika Caldwell of Charlotte, NC, Ivy and Michael Caldwell of Greensboro, NC, Teddy and Curtis Jordan of Clinton, MD, Rhonda Jordon of Boston, MA, Eddie Caldwell of Columbus, OH, and Tanja Caldwell of Los Angeles, CA; two great-great-grandchildren, Corey Burgess of Randleman, NC and Elise Wiley Caldwell of Columbus, OH; one sister-in-law, Mary Lee Holmes of Winston-Salem, NC; one niece, Ms. Willie Mae Rutherford of Winston-Salem, NC; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at Noon Saturday, December 29, 2007 from the Union Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. Sir Walter Mack, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 11am until Noon on Saturday at the Church.
