Lewis Michael Smith was born on January 5, 1956, to the late David L. Smith and Mary E. Smith in Guilford County. He exchanged time for eternity on Thursday, February 22, 2024, at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Hospital, surrounded by his family.

Michael attended North Carolina State University and Aviation School. He retired after 31 years of service from US Airways.

Michael was a member of Phillips Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, a man of faith, and a true humanitarian. He was a simple man, who stood on faith, family, and fellowship.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving and devoted wife, Lynn East Smith, two daughters, Airreia (Samuel) Pierce, and Brooke Smith of Greensboro, NC; one brother, Steve (Elainer) Smith of Winston-Salem, NC; two grandchildren, Samaria and Immanuel Michael Pierce; four sisters-in-law, Patricia (Thomas) Taylor of Fayetteville NC, Palmie (Floyd) Jacobs, Shelby (Bobby) Green, and  Karen (Anthony) Jones, all of Winston-Salem, NC; four aunts, Francis and Alice Evans of Greensboro, NC, Theola and Helen France of Winston-Salem, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00am Saturday, March 2, 2024 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel. The family visitation will be held from 10:30am until 11:00am on Saturday at the Chapel.
