Minister Levander Richard Green, 75, affectionately known as "Dickie" was born on August 10, 1943 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina to Eddie and Irene Martin Green. He was educated in the Winston-Salem Forsyth County Public Schools and was a 1961 graduate of Atkins High School.
He served in the US Army for two years (1964 – 1966) in Korea as a Medic. While serving in the military, he achieved the rank of Sergeant and was honorably discharged. After serving in the military, he worked at RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company, was a trained Respiratory Therapist, and eventually retired from Hanes Dye and Finishing Company. In addition, on December 31, 1978, Dickie was licensed to preach by the late Reverend E.L. Clark, Sr. as a Baptist Minister at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church.
Dickie passed away March 14, 2019 in Greensboro, NC.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Eddie, Jr., Phillip, and Quincey Dwight; and sister, Brenda.
He leaves to celebrate his life, his son, Jibril Abdum-Muhaymin (Shani); daughter, Christy Green Butler (Mac); son, Christopher Green; grandchildren, Christopher Turner, Macayla Butler, Damonte Green, Jul Rashid, Marcus Williams, and Jordan Williams; his sister, Bobbie Russell and brother-in-law, Edward Russell; nieces and nephews, Catrice Russell, Jamicka Morgan (Demetrius), Daryl L. "Boo" Green, Sr. (Cindy), Tyrus Clark, and Dwayne Hall; great nieces and nephews, Daphne, Britnee, Channing, Madison, Tyler, Quishon, Daryl Jr., Chandler, Daniel, Darrius, and Saxton; great-great nieces, Jachere and Janya; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Dwight Hash officiating. The family visitation will be held from 12:00noon until 1:00pm on Wednesday at the Church. Interment will be held at a later date in Salisbury National Cemetery, Salisbury, NC.
