On Tuesday, April 17, 2007 God called home to rest Mr. Lester Myers, Jr. following a period of illness. "LIL LES or JR." as he was called by his family and friends was born on September 26, 1953 in Forsyth County to Lester Myers, Sr. and Bernice Strawn Myers.
He was a graduate of East Forsyth High School and served in the United States Army for 10 years. After leaving the Army he worked for the Smithsonian Museum in security. After many years in the Washington DC area, he returned home where he was employed by The Wakernut Company until his health failed. Lester was a member of Antioch Baptist Church for many years servicing as a member of the Jr. Usher Board and Sunday school. He resided at the Crystal Towers.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Bernice Myers and his father, Lester (Cassie) Myers, Sr.
He leaves to treasure his memories his sister, Dorothy (James) Mitchell of Winston-Salem, NC; aunts, Amelia Myers Nivens of Charlotte, NC and Louise Myers of Detroit, MI, Mable D, Hairston, Rita S. Agnew, Dalphine Draper, Barbara Williams and Maxine Martin all of Martinsville, VA; one uncle, James E, (Linda) Strawn; nephews and nieces who helped care for him, Joseph (Bertha) Mitchell, Monticello (Dawn) Mitchell, LaCheryl ( Reverend Jimmy) Montgomery, La Rita (Rupert) Bell, Denita Mitchell, Catanza (Robert) Moore, and Arneise Robinson; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, special friends, Mr. & Mrs. Charles and Tressie Springs, Ms. Diane Ansong of Washington, DC; and many other friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Monday, April 23, 2007 from the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend J.L. Montgomery officiating. Internment will follow in Salisbury National Cemetery, Salisbury, NC. The family visitation will be held from 11:30 am until 12 noon on Monday at the Chapel.
The family wishes to thank everyone for your prayers and words of comfort. Many thanks to the residents of Crystal Towers and a special thanks to Darryl Dubois. May God continue to bless Pastor J.L. Montgomery and the Antioch Baptist Church family.
