On Thursday, May 25, 2017, Deacon Leroy Lee Miller, 78, of Winston-Salem transitioned from life while working in his beautiful yard into the arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  He was born October 7, 1938 to the late Bishop and Anne Bell Miller.

Leroy served in the United States Army from April 1961 until he received an honorable discharge in April 1963.  After serving in the Army, he was employed at R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company where he served in a number of positions, including Stemming Plant Manager, before retiring after completing 34 plus years of service. Deacon Miller was faithful member of St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church for over 46 years.  In addition to serving in the Deacon's ministry, Leroy was Superintendent of Sunday School for several years, Youth Director, member of the Board of Directors and a devoted Sunday School Teacher.  He loved God and the church and could always be found laboring in some capacity at St. Stephen.

The legacy of Leroy's love and commitment to family will be cherished by his wife of 54 years, Mrs. Rosa H. Miller; three children, Mr. Christopher L. Miller, Ms. Cynthia L. Miller, Ms. Cheryl L. Miller; one grandson, Mr. Brandon C. Shields; one brother, Mr. Stanley (Barbara) Drake; two sisters, Ms. Elizabeth Havner; Mrs. Cherryl (Reuban) Gilliam; all of Winston-Salem; and a host of nephews, nieces, and devoted friends. Deacon Leroy Miller enjoyed working and beautifying his yard and playing golf with his buddies at the Winston Lake and Reynolds Park golf courses.

He was a very caring, committed and peaceful gentleman who was always willing to help whenever and whoever he could.  This true servant of God will be missed.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00noon Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor James Cook officiating. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 12:00noon on Wednesday at the Church. Interment will be held at 10:00am Thursday, June 1, 2017 in Salisbury National Cemetery.
