Deacon Leroy Wall, Jr., 85, passed away peacefully Friday, January 5, 2018 at Forsyth Medical Center, surrounded by family and friends. Mr. Wall was born April 23, 1932 in Anson County, NC to Fannie Dunlap and Leroy Wall, Sr. After graduating from West Deep Creek High School, he served 2 years in the US Army and retired as a reservist after 30 years in 1984. He was employed by RJR, retiring in 1987 after 31 years. He was a loyal, dedicated member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, serving as a Deacon, Teacher, among many other committees, participating faithfully until his illness.
Mr. Wall was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 49 years, Myrtle; son, J. Earl; grandson, Shay Wall; brothers, Haywood, Willie Lee, Sr., and George Wall, Sr.; and sisters, Fannie Ingram and Azzie Wagner.
He is survived by his daughter, Terri W. Scales of the home; sons, Marvin D. and Leroy Wall, III of the city; grandchildren, Leshan Cunningham, Monchaily Wall, Travis Jones-Wall, Alexis and Matthew Scales, Brooke Wall, Ryan Wall, and Donovan Kelley; 5 great grandchildren; his sister, Willie Little of the city; brother, James (Julia) Wall of Baltimore, MD; and a host of extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00noon Friday, January 12, 2018 at Emmanuel Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. John Mendez officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 11:30am until 12:00noon on Friday at the Church.
