Obituary

Lenwood Gilchrist Baker, 84 formerly of 2118 E. 23rd Street went home to meet his heavenly father on Tuesday, January 27, 2009. He lived at Quality Independent Living located at 5068 Lansing Drive Apt. 210 He was born on December 5, 1924 in Laurinburg, North Carolina to Henry and Della Baker. He was a faithful member of St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church for many years where he was a devoted member of the Sunday school and served as Treasurer for twenty years. He was also a member of the Gospel Choir and Pastor's Aid Committee.

Mr. Baker retired from Northside Bowling Lanes after over forty years of service.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Brenda Cobb.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of fifty-five years Lula Williams Baker; two sons, Michael Lenwood Baker and Rev. Ervin Baker ( Cheryl); four daughters, Beverly Staley, Cynthia Carlton (Bishop Steve), Pamela Gibson (Deacon Aldine), and Constance Harris (Vincent); one son-in-law, William Cobb; two brothers-in-law, Lorenzo Williams (Jackie) and Hester Williams (Bertha), a sister-in-law Annette Graham; a devoted sister-in-law Eula Mae Daniels; twenty-two grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1pm Friday, January 30, 2009 from the St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor James E. Cook officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens.

The family visitation will be held from 12 Noon until 1pm on Friday at the Church.
