Mrs. Lena M. Chandler died Friday October 5, 2012 at Forsyth Medical Center after an extended illness.
She was born in Wilson, NC to Robert and Sarah S. McClary, and went to school in Philadelphia, PA and finished high school in Kingstree, SC.
She was known to many in her "Old Carver School" community as "Mom", due to her caring and nurturing nature. The best thing that can be said about Mom is that she loved people, especially her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob Chandler Sr.; her parents; brother, Clifton McClary; sons, Jacob Chandler, Jr., and Floyd L. Chandler; and her grandson, Larry D. Chandler, Jr.
Lena leaves to celebrate her life one daughter, LaVader C. Orr; two sons, Jerome (Vickie) Chandler, and Larry D. (Deborah) Chandler, Sr.; devoted daughter-in-law, Debra S. Chandler; two sisters; three brothers; twelve grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one especially devoted sister-in-law, Margaret McClary; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
The Homegoing Celebration will be held 1:00pm Friday, October 12, 2012 at First Calvary Baptist Church, 401 Woodland Avenue, W-S, NC 27101. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 12noon until 1:00pm on Friday at the Church.
