Lela Bell Wherry was an identical twin born on December 28, 1939, the third child born to the union of the late Jannie Lee (Watson) and John Davis in Schlater, Mississippi.

Lela grew up on a farm where she loved taking care of animals. She was kind and gentle - always willing to help others.

Lela and her family moved briefly to Chicago, Illinois prior to her marriage to Bennie H. Wherry in 1958. She accepted our Lord, Jesus Christ as her personal Savior to lead her through life.

Lela and Bennie were blessed with thirteen children: Bennie, Bernice (deceased), Bertram, Basil (deceased), Bertha, Bailey, Benita, Benjamin, Bertman (deceased), Bee, Bonnie and Benoni.

Lela was dedicated in raising her children and had the opportunity to gain work experience as a nursing assistant during the 1980s.

On October 1, 2023, Lela was called Home to glory. She is survived by 10 children, over 50 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, niece and nephews, and one aunt.
