On June 5, 2007, God sent an Angel to take Lee Thomas Sturdivant, Sr. home to heaven. He was born on May 8, 1933 to Mamie Campbell and James Albert Sturdivant in Anson County, NC. At a young age, his family moved to Winston-Salem, NC where he graduated from Carver Consolidated High School. He served in the United States Army. After more than 48 years, Mr. Sturdivant retired from Sears Roebuck and Company. He also retired from Hill's Lexington Bar-B-Que after more than 50 years of service.
He was a faithful member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church where he served on the Usher Board and the Pastor's Aid.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and one brother.
Surviving are his loving and devoted wife of 49 ½ years, Essie Raysor Sturdivant; one daughter, Deborah Sturdivant of Winston-Salem, NC; two sons, Lee T. Sturdivant, Jr. of Charlotte, NC and Kerry "Leon" (Faye) Sturdivant of Winston-Salem, NC; one granddaughter, Shanikia Sturdivant; two grandsons, Lee T. Sturdivant, III. Of Tacoma, WA and Dewann Sturdivant of Winston-Salem, NC; three great-grandchildren, Jayreese, Destinee, and Tania; six sisters and three brothers, Lessie Pinkney, Mary (Wiseman) Dobson, Henrietta (Andrew) Timmons, Clydie Chaplin, T. Willie Sturdivant, Robert Sturdivant, Pauline (Carnell) Leak, Nancy Braboy, and Johnnie (Yolanda) Sturdivant.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30pm Friday, June 8, 2007 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with Dr. Charles E. Gray officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 12:30pm until 1:30pm on Friday at the Church.
