Leander Bernard Izzard, Sr. was born September 18, 1935 in Winston-Salem, NC. He was the first child of Willie Mae Izzard. He graduated from Atkins High School in 1954 and later joined the United States Air Force. He had various tours of duty in Germany, Korea, Guam, Thailand, Vietnam, as well as other states. He retired in 1982.

On March 5, 2018 he transitioned from his life on Earth to go to his Heavenly home.

In the 82 years of life on Earth he leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 60 plus years, Lucy T. Izzard; one son, Leander Bernard Izzard, Jr; daughter, Deborah Elaine Izzard Berry; one sister-in-law, Karon Izzard; one brother-in-law, Jeffrey Berry; his sisters, Elaine, Mary, Gloria, and Jackie; one brother; 10 grandkids, Carissa, Isis, Dallas, Sandte, Arimis, Michael, Tremayne, Jeff, Desmond, and Columbus ; three great grandkids, Shelly, Aisha, and Jarbar; one great-great granddaughter, Ailani; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and beloved friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Salisbury National Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 10:30am until 11:00am on Wednesday at the Church.
