Mr. Lawrence Walter Grier was born April 14, 1918 in Forsyth County to the late Robert L. and Ruth L. Grier. He passed away peacefully at Regency Care of Clemmons, Nursing Home on March 19th, 2013.
Mr. Grier attended the Winston-Salem Public School System.
After 39 years of service at R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, he retired on April 1. 1981. His retirement years were spent traveling out of state to visit with his children and grandchildren; involvement with the Masonic Order and taking daily walks to help stay physically and mentally healthy. Until his illness, he attended services at Mt Zion Baptist Church. For several years, he served on the Usher Board. He really loved his church and was a life- long member dating back to when the church was ministered by Reverend File.
Mr. Grier is survived by his three sons, Lawrence Grier of Macon, GA, Clarence Grier of Bronx, NY and Marlon Grier of Winston Salem, NC; daughters-in-law, Eleanor Grier and Shirley Grier; his devoted brother, Robert Grier; two nieces, Patricia Grier and Ruth Sherrod; two nephews, Samuel Grier and Kelly Oliver Perry Grier; six grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
His friendliness and warm smile will be missed by his family, friends and neighbors.
Funeral services will be held at 12noon Monday, March 25, 2013 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Rev. Dr. Serenus T. Churn, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 11:30am until 12noon on Monday at the Church.
