Lawrence Leget Brown, know to his friends as "Larry", was born September 9, 1938 in Winston-Salem, NC to the late Paul Kimbrough and Doris Norwilla Kimbrough. He was raised in Baltimore, MD, by his grandmother, the late Stellar Kimbrough Haskins. Lawrence then moved to New York with his father Paul, where he finished school then joined the United Stated Army.
While in the Army, he served as a paratrooper. When asked why he chose to become a paratrooper when he hated flying, he said they paid him more to jump. Makes perfect sense.
Lawrence Brown was a funny, caring, generous and sometimes grumpy man, but most of all Lawrence was a giving man. He was not always eloquent in expressing his love or deep emotions, but he would give thoughtful gifts to let you know he cared when his was words were unspoken. The best gift he gave was himself. He was well liked and loved by everyone and will be sorely missed.
He went to work for the Rockefeller Group in the late 1970's. He continued to work for the company and the Rockefeller Family in different capacities until his retirement. After retiring, Lawrence moved to Cartage, NC. He eventually moved back to Winston Salem, where he lived until his passing.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles Kimbrough and Leslie Kimbrough; and sister, Shelia Kimbrough.
Lawrence is survived by his three children, daughters, Cynthia Rogers-Brown (William) and Lauren Hodge (Leslie),and son, Lawrence Barlow; he leaves to cherish his loving memory his sisters, Doris Evans, Vickie Kimbrough, Dobray Kimbrough, Denise (Larry) Gillis, Dorothy Alexis, Roxanne Kimbrough, and Regina Kimbrough; brothers, Bobby (Viola) Kimbrough, Landis (Cleo) Kimbrough, Alford Lee (Virginia) Kimbrough, Michael (Gloria) Kimbrough, Tyrone (Miriam) Kimbrough, Kayyum Allah, and Paul (Shameeka) Kimbrough; grandchildren, David Rodgers, Linnod Rodgers, Daisy Scott, Naron Jenkins, Ronald Faulk, Javon Barlow, Tá-Jon Barlow, and Dennis Hodge; ten great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
