Obituary

Mother Laura Lee Brewer O'Neal was born July 30, 1937 to the late Bishop Sidney and Patty Becote Brewer in Lee County, South Carolina.  Early Monday morning, March 6, 2017, our precious Creator sealed the lips and eyes of our beloved Laura O'Neal.

Mother Laura O'Neal was a 1955 graduate of Butler High School in Hartsville, South Carolina.  She accepted her Lord and Savior at an early age.  While in church and high school she met the love of her life in 1951, Mr. Leslie O'Neal.  They were united in holy matrimony in Hartsville, SC on September 6, 1956, and recently celebrated their 60 th wedding anniversary.  From this union, God blessed them with six children.

The family relocated to Winston-Salem, NC in 1962.  Mother O'Neal was employed as a domestic, later working for Hanes, Duplan, Dillard Mills, retiring from Sara Lee/Hanesbrand, and Womble/Carlyle and Associates.  Mother O'Neal was a woman with a "heart of gold."  She would lend a helping hand to any and every one with no hesitation.  She led the family to join Kimberly Park Holiness Church in 1965 under the leadership of Pastor Solomon Caesar.  During her spiritual tenure, she was a great asset to Kimberly Park Holiness Church for over 52 years.  She served on the Mothers' Board, Joy and Faith Club, and the Pastor's Aid Society.  Mother O'Neal enjoyed teaching Sunday School and serving as a Bible Study Intercessor, as well as preparing for monthly Communion Service.  For many years, she cleaned the church without pay and was one of the first to invest in the Kimberly Park Bond Program to help finance the new sanctuary. She and Deacon O'Neal were devotional worship leaders for the North Carolina Area of the Northwestern District.  Before her health failed, Mother O'Neal attended every District Quarterly, Missionary and YPHA Meeting, HCOG Sunday School Convention and HCOG General Assembly Convention.  In 2016, she received appreciation from NCANW District Missionary for faithful service. Mother O'Neal was a strong Christian woman who loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren unconditionally.  She taught her children to love the Lord, to live right and to treat others with respect.  She fervently believed everyone should have a spouse. She loved praising God, family gatherings, and laughter.  Any advice was always referenced to the teachings of our Lord, and Savior, Jesus Christ.  Her children affectionately call her "Doc" for she was the expert on the word with tenderness and firmness as needed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bishop Sidney and Patty Brewer; siblings, Napoleon Brewer, James Brewer, Richard Brewer, Timothy Brewer, Bishop Carlmilton Brewer, Marie Thomas, Aaron Brewer, Amos Brewer, Willie Brewer, and Anna Lee Phillips.

Surviving to cherish fond memories are her husband, Deacon Leslie O'Neal of the home; her children, Fredrick O'Neal, Dr. Patsy O. Squire (Earnest), Carolyn O. Edmond (Vice Ruling Elder, Pastor Robert Edmond, Jr.), Theressa O. Hymes (John Hymes), Leslie Wayne O'Neal Jr. (Kenya) all of W-S, NC and Kenneth Earl O'Neal of Winchester, California; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren; three sisters, Zealouise Brewer Hough of Hartsville, SC, Susie Brewer Robinson of Philadelphia, PA, Juliet Brewer Lunn (Rev. Timothy Lunn) of Baltimore, MD; one sister-in-law, Amanda Scott Brewer of McBee, SC; a special friend, Betty Jo Dargan; and a host of deeply loved nieces, nephews, cousins and other close relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Kimberly Park Holiness Church with Vice Ruling Elder, Pastor Robert Edmond, Jr. officiating.  Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 12noon until 1:00pm on Saturday at the Church.
