Obituary

Mrs. Laura Mae Holden Griffith "Sis", 96, formerly of 5744 Nylon Drive, departed this life on July 29, 2012 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.

She was born January 9, 1916 in Winston-Salem, NC to the late Richard R. Holden and Minnie Lewis Mock Holden.
She was a graduate of Atkins High School.

She was a lifelong member of the Ephesus Seventh-Day Adventist Church. She was a devout usher board member, a member of the Sabbath School, and her duties with the church also included being a member of the Church Prayer Band. She loved the Lord, playing baseball, traveling, and having a great time.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Percy Griffith; her brother, Edward Mock; and her sister, Agnes Wade Cook.

She is survived by her three daughters, Shirley A. Griffith, Christine Kelley and Mimi Kee; a son, Ulysses Griffith of CA and a devoted son and caregiver, Hiawatha Eugene Griffith (Lillian) of Winston-Salem, NC; 27 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; 34 great-great grandchildren; and many loved cousins, nieces and nephews. Our mother loved and worked many years for the late Ira Gordon Early, MD, Mrs. Ruth Early and their children, Dr. Ann Early Bibb (Bill) of Decatur, GA, Susan Early Ciccarelli (Dominick) of Cary, NC, Katherine Early Solet (Peter) of Marshall, NC, Dr. Ira Gordon Early Jr. (Lee) of Simpsonville, SC, and Betty Early Dominick (Jay) of Concord, NC, and they were a loving second family. The Early children produced seven grandchildren.

The Homegoing Celebration will be held at 12:30pm, Thursday, August 2, 2012 at The Ephesus Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 1225 North Cleveland Avenue, Winston-Salem, NC 27101. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 12noon until 12:30pm on Thursday at the Church.

The family extends a special thanks to The Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home's loving staff who cared for their matriarch in her final days.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Ephesus Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Building Fund,1225 North Cleveland Ave., Winston-Salem, NC 27101.
