CMSGT (Retired) Larnce J. Mack, 78, died peacefully at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital on Oct 18, 2017. He was born on April 23, 1939 in Winston-Salem, NC to Lee W. Mack and Jessie M. Mack. Larnce early education was received in the Winston-Salem public school system and he graduated from Atkins High School. He later attended Yuba College in Marysville, CA where he was awarded 57 semester credit hours towards a degree in Administrative Management. He also attended George Washington University where he was awarded his Associates Degree in English studies.
In 1957, he joined the Air Force and was assigned to a variety of locations both in the United States and overseas that included Puerto Rico, Thailand, Japan, West Germany and the Pentagon in Washington, DC. A veteran of the Vietnam War, he was highly decorated and earned more than forty commendations for outstanding service, performance and dedication to duty. He retired from the Armed Forces in 1987 with thirty years of military service. After his retirement from the Air Force, he was employed by the State of North Carolina at the Employment Securities Commission for another twenty years and retired from the State as well.
Mr. Mack married Janet McAllister in 1965, their marriage ended in divorce in 1972. He later married Hattie Mitchell in 1974 and they continued in marriage until the time of her death in 2006. He re-married in 2014 to Aurelia Hill and was married to her until his death in Oct of 2017.
Mr. Mack was a devoted member of St. John's CME Church for over thirty years and served in several capacities, such as Chairman of the Trustee Board, President of the Men's Chorus, Class Leader, member of the A.W. Manning Sunday School Class, and Food Pantry Ministry, he also assisted with the maintenance of the church grounds, and supported various boards, auxiliaries and outreach ministries of both St. John's and his wife's church, First Presbyterian church.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Lee Mack, Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Aurelia Hill-Mack; two brothers, Jim Mack and Joe Mack; children, Curtiss Pauling (Sharon), Larry Pauling (Trulesta), Kevin Pauling (Debra), Pamela Knight (Aaron), Ronald Pauling, Clevette Holbert, and Aurelia Neal; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Friday, October 27, 2017 at St. John CME Church with Dr. Regina Young officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 10:00am until 11:00am on Friday at the Church.
