In his infinite wisdom and goodness, GOD called our dearly beloved Lakira Denise Leak home on January 25, 2019 at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, NC.
A 2016 graduate of Parkland High School, W-S, NC, Lakira was a student at University of North Carolina-Greensboro, studying Mass Communications with the intent to be a movie critic. Lakira's love for this chosen path was surpassed only by her philanthropic efforts and her peaceful, loving spirit. Having had wonderful experiences at Camp Hanes in King, NC, both as a participant and a summer counselor, she was also pursuing her passion to become a permanent camp counselor there. Lakira invested herself physically, emotionally and financially to see other campers benefit the way she had.
Lakira is survived by her mother, Ellen Leak-Forbes (Leroy); her father, Damian Watson (Sharieka); sisters, Cassandra Leak, Deshara Watson, and Aquiria Bowens; brothers, Daron Robinson and Sakil Harrison; grandparents, Christopher and Iris Leak, Tommy Watson, Sr., and Maggie Lash; great-grandfather, Charles Leak, Sr.; a beloved friend, Demarcus Shade; and a host of extended family members and friends.
A memorial service celebrating Lakira will be held at 2:00pm Saturday, February 2, 2019 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel where you will learn about many chapters in her life with Rev. Wrenwick Williams, Pastor of Dunamis Ministries, Jamestown, NC officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30pm until 2:00pm on Saturday at the Chapel.
