Born December 14, 1951 in Marion, NC, the second child of Annie Lee Keaton and the late Raymond Keaton, LaGretta Ray Keaton departed this earthly life on December 29, 2015.
LaGretta grew up in Old Fort, NC, graduating from Old Fort High School in 1969. She furthered her education at Knoxville College in Knoxville, TN in 1973 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology, and earning a Master's of Business Administration from Garner Webb University in Boiling Springs, NC in 2000.
LaGretta started her long career in banking at the Northwestern Bank in 1974 in Old Fort. In 1988 she became manager of the Old Fort Financial Center and later became Assistant Vice President. She served on the Boards of the McDowell Economic Development, the Foothills Industries, and the Town of Old Fort Planning Committee. In 2005 she relocated to Winston Salem where she was employed as loan underwriter at the BB&T Bank corporate headquarters.
LaGretta traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and Europe. She adored her dogs, Lady and Fluffy. She was a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., The Asheville Chapter of the Links, Inc., and Catawba View Missionary Baptist Church. After relocating to Winston Salem, she joined United Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church.
She is survived by her devoted mother, Annie Lee Keaton; her loving sister, Trevia Ogburn (Floyd); two nephews, Kenyon and Damon Ogburn; three aunts; and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12noon Saturday, January 2, 2016 at Catawba View Missionary Baptist Church, 141 Baptist Side Road Old Fort, NC 28726 with Reverend Ronald A. Sullivan officiating. Interment will follow in McDowell Memorial Park Marion, NC. The family visitation will be held from 11:30am until 12noon on Saturday at the Church.
