Obituary

After a lengthy illness, Kimberly Sue Kirkland Smith transitioned from her earthly journey to her eternal life on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at Select Specialty Hospital. Kim was born August 11, 1953 in Winston-Salem, NC to the late Robert and Mildred Joyner Kirkland. A graduate of Atkins High School, she was a loyal employee of HanesBrands, Inc. for 28 years.
Kim was a dedicated member of Shouse Temple CME Church under the pastorate of the late Rev. Constance C. Anderson. After Rev. Anderson's death, Kim attended St. John CME Church, until she became ill.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Frankie Kirkland; and sister-in-law, Catherine Kirkland.
Surviving are her daughters, LaKeisha and Tia Kirkland; a grandson, Jabre Kirkland; one sister, Tammy Kirkland; two brothers, Bobbie Kirkland of Winston-Salem, NC and Dr. Robbin Kirkland of Columbus, Ohio; her aunt, Barbara Joyner; two uncles, Frank and Douglas Joyner all of Winston-Salem, NC; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends; and a special church buddy, Gail Dubose.
Memorial services will be held at 1pm Friday, April 8, 2011 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend James Dunbar eulogist. The family visitation will be held from 12noon until 1pm on Friday at the funeral home.
The Kirkland family would like to express our deepest appreciation to the staff and doctors of Select Specialty Hospital for providing such wonderful care, not only of Kimberly, but of her family as well.
