Keye Lyke Porter, 63, of 1253 N. Jackson Avenue was born on June 19, 1958 to Henry F. Porter and Sarah Ruth Porter in Winston-Salem, NC. He departed this life on October 11, 2021 at his home.
Mr. Porter was educated in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Public Schools. He graduated from West Forsyth High School where he participated in the ROTC. After high school, he served in the U.S. Army for three years. His favorite tour of duty was in Hawaii. Mr. Porter was renowned as a grill master and loved entertaining. He also considered himself to have a green thumb. Despite his seemingly gruff exterior, "Mr. Keye" was putty in the hands of small children throughout his community. They cultivated his softer side and they adored him. When gathered together with his siblings and childhood friends, he recounted fond memories of being a member of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church. Due to health reasons, Mr. Porter was unemployed at the time of his passing.
Mr. Porter was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Dolly Arlene Porter (infant); two brothers, Curtis Porter and Kenneth Ingram; and a niece, Sabrina Porter, all of the city.
He leaves to cherish loving memories two sisters, Robin Pendleton of Delray Beach, FL and Myra Smoot (Dwight) of the city; two nephews, Rico Porter of the city and Charles Porter of Greensboro, NC; great-nephews Kedrick Gibson, Devon Plater, Olajawan Hairston and Antwain Porter of the city, and Kenneth Ingram, Jr. of Illinois; two nieces, Saharia Porter and Dominique Barksdale of the city; one aunt, Jessie Porter of Greensboro, NC; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Sunday, October 17, 2021 at Russell Funeral Home. Private services will be held Monday, October 18, 2021. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens.
