Obituary

Kenya Monique Blue-Nelson was born December 26, 1969.  She departed this life May 3, 2020 at Wake Forest Baptist Health Medical Center.

Kenya, a life-long resident of Winston-Salem, NC, graduated from RJ Reynolds High School in 1988. She was an independent contractor performing home services. Kenya had a beautiful and bubbly personality. She never met a stranger and greeted everyone with an infectious smile. She is missed by all who knew and loved her.

Kenya's gift to the world was love.

Kenya was preceded in death by her father, Arthur Lee Blue, Sr.; grandparents, Robert Lee Blue, Mattie Arlease Blue-Hawkins, Genella and George Smitherman;  uncles, Tony Smitherman,  Michael Smitherman, and Craig Backman.

She is survived by her children, Ashley (Travis) Yelton, Justin Blue, and Austin Holiday; grandchildren, Kaiden Edgar, Harley Edgar, Amirra-Grace Edgar, Josiah Mabe, and Danica Blue; mother, Sharon Smitherman Blue and stepfather, James Mack; Godmother, Valeria Blue; siblings, Arthur Lee (Cherie) Blue, Jr., Bryan (Virginia) Blue, Tamerria (Reginald) Blue-Chatman, and extended loved ones;  aunts, Miriam Glenn, Brenda Cherry, Vicki Brown, and Kim Backman; uncle, George Smitherman; partner, David Santiago; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

A viewing will be held from 1:00pm-5:00pm Thursday, May 7, 2020 at Russell Funeral Home. Private services will be held Friday, May 8, 2020.
