Obituary

Mr. Kenneth Weldon Payne, "Kenny" of 4675 Superior Drive peacefully made his transition into life eternal, after a long period of illness on Sunday, January 24, 2010.
He was born February 29, 1956 in Winston-Salem, NC to Lillian Payne Banner and Waddell Boyd, Sr. He attended the local public schools and graduated from R.J. Reynolds High School, class of 1975.
Kenny was employed with the WS/FC School System form 27 ½ years as Lead Custodian until his health failed. Kenny was a lifelong member of Shiloh Baptist Church, while as youth he was very active in Sunday school, BTU, and the Youth Choir.
He was preceded in death by his father; his son, Kenneth W. Payne, Jr.; a brother, Lonnie Thompson; and step-father, Vernon Banner.
He leaves to celebrate his life his loving and devoted wife of 31 years, Mrs. Anna A. Payne; one devoted daughter, Ivy Payne; one precious grandson and joy to his life, Christian Payne of the home; his mother, Mrs. Lillian Banner; his step-mother, Antoinette Boyd; six brothers, Waddell Boyd, Jr. (Vickie), Kevin Banner (Kim), Anthony Kellum, Ricky Banner, Toma Banner (Monica), and Rayvon Kellum all of Winston-Salem, NC; four sisters, Beverley Boyd McDaniel (Donnell), Terry Thompson, V. Lynn Banner, and Tina Banner all of Winston-Salem, NC; aunts, Mary P. Jones (Milton) of PA, Jackie Payne Brooks (Jay), Sophia Payne-Drake (Thomas), Katrina Payne, Rosa Mae McKoy (Bill), Isabell Williams, Barbara Glen, Sarah Carter, Gladys Rivers of Hartford, CT, Thomasina Hawkins of Lewisville, NC, Edith Payne, and Marthola Payne; uncles, Karl Payne (Bobbietta), Charles Hill (Leona Hill), Tommy Lee Boyd, George Baldwin, and Milton William, Jr.; sisters-in-law, Michelle A. Werts and Carolyn Anthony; brothers-in-law, Vernon Anthony, Greg Anthony, and Robert Leak, Jr.; special sisters/cousins, Marcia J. Walton-Chappell, Sheryl J. Lowery-Adams (Sherry), Carmen J. Spruill (Kat) and Debra Mack; sister/aunts, Sophia Payne, Jackie Payne, and Katrina Payne; special and best friends, Calvin Adams (Goat), Curtis Werts (Roy Lee), Lamar McCollum (Marty), Lawrence Smith (Flute), and Thomas Smith (Smitty); and many, many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at Noon Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at Shiloh Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. Paul A. Lowe, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 11am until Noon on Saturday at the Church.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to Hospice Care, Dr. Mebea Akilu, Joe Ramsey, Amy Cameron, Hospice nurses, and the WFU/BMC Oncology/Hematology Department.
