Ken Edward Byers of Winston-Salem, NC completed his life's journey on Monday, March 6, 2023, at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. Ken was born on September 1, 1955, to the late Mr. Rufus Byers Sr. and Mrs. Elizabeth Blair Byers in Gaffney, South Carolina.

Ken Byers matriculated through the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System and received his formal education from North Forsyth High School, until he joined the United States Naval Academy. He proudly served the United States of America from 1972-1974 when he was discharged. He was employed with several major businesses in the Winston-Salem area including Salem Steele, Pepsi Cola Bottling Company, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, and RJ Reynolds Archer Rubber Company. Additionally, he owned his own janitorial service and provided cleaning services for many of the private practices in Winston-Salem. Ken also, created his own moving company, Ken's Furniture Delivery, which he worked and supervised until he fell ill in September 2022. He was a very generous soul who never met a stranger and always put the needs of his family and friends before his own.

Ken is survived by three sisters, Joanne Stevenson of New York, Minnie Louise Byers and Rosalie McClure of South Carolina; one stepsister, Angie McClure of South Carolina; one daughter, Kenetria Elizè Byers of Winston-Salem, NC; four grandchildren; special friends and a host of other relatives.

He will be welcomed home to glory by his father and mother, Rufus Byers Sr. and Elizabeth Blair Byers; four brothers, Robert Blair, Sr., Davis Blair, Sr. Rufus Byers, Jr., and Jerry Byers; and one daughter, Vontarious Ingraham Bobbit.

A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at Russell Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Thursday, March 16, 2023 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel.  The family visitation will be held from 12:30pm until 1:00pm on Thursday at the Chapel.  Burial will be held at 10:00am Friday, March 17, 2023 in Salisbury National Cemetery, Salisbury, NC.
