Kay Linda Greer Hampton, a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and cherished friend, peacefully entered eternal rest on Sunday, July 27, 2025 at her home, surrounded by love. Born on February 25, 1947, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, she was the beloved daughter of the late Mary Scurry and John Wesley Greer.
A proud graduate of Paisley High School, Kay went on to build a dedicated 29-year career at R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, retiring in 1996. She was a member of Union Baptist Church. Her commitment to faith, family, and community was evident in all she did.
Kay had a heart for service and a passion for bringing people together. She found joy in tennis, the beach, and most of all, cooking for those she loved. Her legendary Sunday dinners and mouthwatering mac and cheese were more than meals—they were treasured traditions that brought comfort, laughter, and connection.
Her greatest pride and joy was her family. Kay's life was a beautiful testament to love, resilience, and grace. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, wisdom, and unforgettable memories.
She is lovingly survived by her devoted children: Darrelle (Chris) Manning, Crystal Howard, Willie (Jadine) Hampton, III, and John (Lisa) Hampton. Known as "The Great 8," her adored grandchildren, Justin Howard, Michelle (Dennis) Rankin, Caleb May, Ashley Howard, Dr. Sydni Hampton, Danielle Manning, John Myles Hampton, and Magen Hampton—carry on her light. She is also survived by four precious great-grandchildren. Also left to cherish her memory are her beloved sisters, Brenda (Scipio) Tucker and Sendra Greer; her dear niece and nephew, Donna Gaddy and Jeffrey Ledbetter; her bonus daughters, Tasha Harris and Candace Bishop; goddaughter, Richelle Morrison; her best friend of 65 years, Linda Coaxum; special friends, Mildred Brown, Shirley Bishop, Joyce Smith and family; as well as a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
Kay Linda Greer Hampton lived a life marked by generosity, warmth, and deep devotion. Her legacy will continue to shine brightly through the many lives she touched.
