Obituary

Kay Frances Conner Johnson, affectionately known as "Mom" and "Kay," was born on December 8, 1940, to the late Henry and Annie Conner in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.

Kay joined a loving family of five siblings, with three sisters and two brothers: Catherine, Virginia, Sarah, James, and Albert "T-Ball".

Kay graduated from Atkins High School, in the Class of 1959. She loved education and her school. She was always at the top of her class having earned a place in the National Honor Society.

After high school, she attended Star Stenography Business School.  Following graduation, she was employed at Bell South Telephone Company for 31 years prior to her retirement in September, 1998. During her tenure and afterwards, she was a part of the employees' Birthday Club and she was a member of the Pioneers' Club.

Following retirement, Kay found new activities to fill her days and maintain a healthy lifestyle. She formed a group known as The Walkers , and they enjoyed walking daily at Bowen Park and Hanes Hosiery Recreation Center for more than 20 years.

She and her late husband, Donald Johnson, Sr., enjoyed traveling to sporting events with The Rollers , cookouts, various social events, and always spending time with family and friends.

Early in life, Kay accepted Christ as her Savior. She was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church where she actively participated.  She was a member of the Senior Choir and weekly Bible Study.  She loved her church family and attended as often as she was able.

Mrs. Kay Frances Conner Johnson passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. In addition to her parents and her husband of 44 years, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Catherine, Virginia and Sarah; and a special friend,  Rosalee Wilson.

The unspeakable joy that awaits her in heaven is the promise of a reunion with her loved ones.  Those family members who survive and now celebrate and cherish loving memories of Kay's life include her son, Donald (Sherry) Johnson, Jr.; her daughter, Katrina (Eric) McCoy; two brothers, James ( Judy) Conner and Albert "T-Ball" (Veronica) Conner; grandchildren, Doneisha Johnson, Tyree Logan, Jalyn Pouncey, Brandon Farrington, Stefan Jordan, and Ericka, Isaac, Danielle, and Donovan McCoy; two great-grands; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; and special friends, Sue Washington, Eleanor Williams, and Andrena McCullough.

Suddenly, our world is different.  We can't see you, and we can't hear you anymore.  But we can feel you in our hearts because we are a part of you.  We had good times together and we have such great memories.  Thanks for showing us that love means everything!  Until we meet again…
