On Monday, July 23, 2007 God is His infinite mercy saw fit to dispatch His angel for Katie Duncan Payne.
Katie was born to Sophia and Fred Duncan on October 7, 1921 in Charlotte, NC.
She was a lifelong member of Shiloh Baptist Church where she was affiliated with the Ladies Progressive Auxiliary and a former member of the Senior Choir. Katie was a member of Bivouac Chapter #530: O.E.S, the Wicky Wacky Club, Secret Pal Club, the Friendly Few Club, and she was the Matriarch of the S & K Classic Ladies.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her step father, Thomas McKoy; her husband, David G. Payne; two sons, David Payne Duncan and Ronald N. Payne; and one daughter, Rosalyn R. Payne.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories six daughters, Mary P. Jones (Milton) of Philadelphia, PA, Lillian Banner, Jackie Brooks (Willie), Sharon Coggins, Sophia Payne-Drake (Thomas), and Katrina Payne all of Winston-Salem, NC; one son, Reverend Karl Payne (Bobbietta) of Winston-Salem, NC; a very devoted daughter-in-law, Ida Duncan; two daughters-in-law, Vivian Smith Payne and Kay Evans; an adopted daughter, Bessie Lyles; 44 grandchildren; 75 great-grandchildren; 22 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Marthola Payne and Edith Payne; one brother-in-law, George Baldwin; devoted cousins, Mary G. Britt and Dorothy Bailey of Winston-Salem, NC, James Davis of Long Island, NY, and Larry Caldwell of Biloxi, MS; a lifelong friend, Bessie Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews, other cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1pm Saturday, July 28, 2007 from the Shiloh Baptist Church Reverend Dr. Paul A. Lowe, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 12 noon until 1pm on Saturday at the Church.
