Obituary

Ms. Katie Frances DeLapp, 78, of 1831 Disher Road, Winston-Salem, NC, transitioned from labor to reward Saturday, July 25, 2020 at her residence after an extended period of illness.  Born June 12, 1943 in Davidson County to the late Thelma Mae Banks and Frank Clark, she was raised by her uncle and aunt, the late Percy and Lillie Moore. She was educated in the Davidson County School System and graduated from Dunbar High School, class of 1961. She retired from Thomasville Furniture Industries after 30 years of service.

A lifetime member of Gates of Zion Worship Center (formerly Gates of Zion Glorious Church of God) in Midway NC.,  "Mother" or "Momma Katie" , as she was affectionately known, served faithfully and passionately in several capacities including President of the Nurses' Board, Vice President of the Pastor's Aide Committee, the Sick and Flower Club and the Birthday Club.  She also utilized her vocal ability as a gifted soprano in the renowned Gates of Zion Choir.   She was the ultimate willing worker with a servant's heart, always inclined to share a word of encouragement, inspiration, and instruction.

Katie had an infectious smile that she effortlessly transferred to others. Her house was the gathering place for family and friends, the place where she shared the family history and nourishment for the body and soul. She was a premiere example of "good works."  Her children were an inexplicable joy; she loved them dearly and was immensely proud of their accomplishments.

Katie was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Anthony DeLapp; a sister, Ruby Jean Tuttle; half-sister, Phyllis Diane Clark Lattimore; aunts, Annie Leonard, Rosetta Lindsay, Irene Greer, Dora DeLapp, and Katie Tuttle; and uncles,  Alfred Tuttle, Sam Tuttle, James Tuttle and George Henry Tuttle.

Left to continue her legacy and cherish her memory are loving children, Glenda (Chester) Tuttle of Midway, NC, Ronnie (Shirley) DeLapp of Charlotte, NC, and Jamelia DeLapp of the home;  one sister, Rachel (Henry) Thomas of Midway, NC; two brothers, Lonnie (Jackie) Pate and Melvin Pate, Jr. of Midway, NC; grandchildren, Courtney Tuttle, Corey DeLapp, Cierra Tuttle, Megan DeLapp, Chelsea DeLapp, and Ronnie DeLapp, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Caleb Tuttle, Cobey DeLapp, Corey DeLapp, Jr., and Ciya Howell; a devoted niece and nephew, Eric and Tanya Tuttle, Winston-Salem, NC; adopted grandchildren, Carlissa Harley, Zechariah Harley, and  Patrick Phillips, Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends, and the Gates of Zion Church Family.
