Katie McKay Carpenter was born in Darlington County, South Carolina to Douck and Susanna McKay on March 30, 1935. Katie, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend made her peaceful transition to her heavenly home on Friday, August 4, 2023.
At the age of 17, Katie moved to Winston- Salem, North Carolina. Katie was a former employee of Export Leaf Tobacco Company, the Winston- Salem Forsyth County School System, and retired from Thomasville Furniture Company in the 70s.
Katie was a strong woman even though she was small in frame. She loved life and gave to many. A caretaker by nature, Katie was a servant after God's own heart. Katie was God's Girl! She sang to God every chance she could, and she shared the God she knew with everyone who was willing to know Him. Her faith in God withstood any tests and trials her and her family faced because Katie was also not afraid of life trials and dealt with every problem head on.
Katie was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. J.T Taylor; daughter, Patricia Ann Carpenter; son, Billy A. Taylor; son, Bobby Ray Carpenter; and eleven siblings.
Katie will forever be loved and remembered. She leaves to cherish countless memories: daughter, Sharon Mashack; son, Demorris Carpenter Sr.; son, Charles Carpenter; a devoted great-granddaughter, Nyjai Westmoreland, along with many grandchildren and great grandchildren whom she love and adored, as well as bonus grandchildren, and a host of family, church members and friends.
