Kathy Carter Mashack, 47, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, passed away on August 1, 2025, in her hometown.

Born on November 25, 1977, in Winston-Salem, Kathy was a proud native of the city she loved and served throughout her life. She attended North Forsyth High School, where she was an active member of the Vikings Marching Band as a flag girl, an early sign of her vibrant spirit and dedication to community.

Kathy was a devoted mother to her two children, Isaiah Carter and Destiny Mashack. Her love for them was boundless, deeply felt and expressed in every moment they shared. She poured her heart into motherhood with unwavering commitment and joy.

Professionally, Kathy found her calling in early childhood education. Known affectionately as "Ms. Kathy" by her students, she had a special gift for nurturing young minds. Her classroom was more than a place of learning—it was a haven of warmth and encouragement. Though small in stature, she created an environment filled with love and inspiration, always striving to help those around her succeed.

Kathy's faith was central to who she was. She had a tremendous heart for God and His ways, living out her beliefs through kindness, compassion, and service to others. Her sweet demeanor touched everyone she met—from family members to friends to the many children whose lives she helped shape.

She cherished her extended family deeply. Her cousins were like siblings to her, and she treated everyone with genuine care and respect. Her presence brought people together; her love made them feel seen and valued.

Kathy is survived by her beloved children, Isaiah Carter and Destiny Mashack; her mother, Vanessa Carter; father, Tony Carter; sister, Shantell Cheek; and a host of loving cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends who will carry forward the light she brought into their lives.

A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Thursday, August 7, 2025 at Russell Funeral Home.

A Celebration of Kathy's Life will be held at 11:30am August 8, 2025 at Fresh Wind Fellowship Baptist Church 2900 Old Salisbury Rd, Winston-Salem, NC 27127. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 11:30am on Friday at the Church.
