Obituary

On May 17, 1927 in Union, SC, the home of Henry and Julia Moore radiated with the birth of Julia Audrey, their only grandchild. Julia lived with her grandparents until she was six years old when she came to Winston-Salem, NC to live with her mother, Sallie Moore Gladden, and her aunt, Pernola Moore Avery Owens. Julia attended Columbian Heights lower school and upper school; graduated from Atkins High School; earned a B.A. in Education from Hampton Institute (now Hampton University); and earned a M.A. from NC A&T State University. After over 30 years of service, she retired from the WS/FC School System having taught primary grades at Brown Elementary, Diggs Elementary, and Konnoak Elementary Schools.

While working on her Master's degree at NC A&T State University, Julia Audrey met Cupid Wesley Kellum and were later united in marriage on April 2, 1953. Julia and Cupid were married for 50 years and were devoted members of Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Winston-Salem, NC. She was a faithful member of the Deborah Missionary Group.

Julia was an avid reader, a huge sports fan (with baseball as her favorite and football a close second), enjoyed birdwatching, and enjoyed watching her favorite evening programs with her daughter Cheryl. Julia was also an excellent cook and loved to try recipes she found in "Better Homes and Gardens" and "Good Housekeeping" magazines. In her younger years, she was a good pinochle player, and she delighted in her garden of potted plants. As a devoted "granny", she took pride in loving and helping to care for her granddaughters, Leisa and April.

Greeting her in Heaven on Monday, August 5, 2024 were her husband, Cupid Kellum; her mother, Sallie Moore Gladden Salvage; her father, Joseph Serrant; her daughter and son-in-love, Vardrene (Kellum) and Thomas Elliott; her father and mother-in-love, Christopher and Emma Kellum; her sisters and brothers-in-love, Audrey and James Edgerston and Gloria and Floyd Wilson; her nephew, Floyd Wilson, Jr.; her aunts, Annie Moore Evangelista, Gertrude Sollars, Pernola Owens, and Cornelia Moore; and her cousins, Elizabeth Dawkins, Maceo McKissick, and Matred Campbell.

The keepers of cherished memories are her precious daughter, Cheryl Morris; her devoted granddaughters, Leisa Morris-Bryant (Mark) and April Morris Chalk (Matthew); her grandsons, Anthony Elliott (Chiquita) and Todd Elliott (Kim); her great-grandchildren, Jalen Elliott (Lea), Quentin Elliott, Aaliyah Elliott, Corey Elliott, Lauren Elliott, Maxon Bryant, Marley Bryant and Maci Bryant; her great-great-grandson, Jaxen Anthony Elliott; her beloved niece, Frances Wilson Moore; her special adopted sister, Annette Scippio, and her children Nikkya and Evan Williams; and her extraordinary childhood friends: Shirley Ann Williams Dunlap and Mary Jane Williams. Sincere and special appreciation and thanks to Gina Williams who provided long term care for the past several years.
