Mrs. Julia Mae Colson Burns, 93, formerly of 1900 N. Jackson Ave., was born July 31, 1922 in Anson County, NC to the late Fletcher and Blanche Colson. She departed this life at the Springwood Care Center on Monday, September 14, 2015. She and her late husband of 52 years, Mr. Willie Lee Burns, relocated to W-S, NC from Albemarle, NC in 1961.
Mrs. Burns and her husband were co-owners of Burns Van Service for many years. She loved people and enjoyed cooking and feeding family and friends who visited her.
She was a member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church where she also served as the Mother of the church.
She loved and was very proud of her husband and the twelve children that God blessed them with. From this number she was preceded in death by four sons, Walter Lee, John Lee, Jeffrey Andre, and Monte Ervin Burns; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Lonnie and Ben Colson.
Left to cherish her memories are four daughters, Julia Burns-Martin, Linda Burns-Chambers, Cassandra Burns, and Priscilla Burns; four sons, Thomas H., Carl (Roxie), Myron (Patricia), and Timothy; a special son, Rocky Funderburk of Durham, NC; twenty-six grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; four daughters-in-law, Margaret, Blondie, Jackie, and Cynthia Burns; and many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12noon Saturday, September 19, 2015 at Greater Cleveland Avenue Christian Church with Pastor Paul Hart of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 12noon on Saturday at the Church.
