Judy Ray Redd was born in Atlanta GA on July 4, 1947 to John Ray and Helen Walker Ray. She transitioned from labor to reward during the quiet early morning hours on Wednesday, June 7, 2017.
Judy attended the public schools of Atlanta and graduated from Bernie Harris High School, Athens GA in 1965. She received the BS Degree in Business Education from Winston-Salem State University and the MS Degree in Education-Guidance from North Carolina A&T State University. She was a veteran of the US Air Force. Judy retired from the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools as a Guidance Counselor at Hill Middle School. She was a former member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and later joined First Baptist Church where she served on the Spiritual and Chancel Choirs.
Judy was a wife, mother, grandmother and counselor of many. The primary focus of her life was her family which she adored immensely and showed unconditional love. She is known far and wide for her advice to young people, especially during their educational journey.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, John Ray III and Curtis Thompson.
She is survived by her son, Christopher (Catina) Redd of Kernersville NC; her daughter, Crystal Redd of Advance NC and their father, O.D. Redd of Advance NC; grandchildren, Kristina Redd, Christopher Redd, Jr. "CJ", and Drew Elizabeth Redd; six brothers, five sisters, three brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Homegoing Services will be held at 1 pm Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Glenn Pettiford officiating Dr. S.W. Mack eulogist. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 12noon until 1pm on Tuesday at the Church.
