Obituary

Sister Joyce Ann Smith of Rural Hall, North Carolina was born to Fannie Mae Smith and Robert Lane Smith, Sr. in Wake County, North Carolina on December 26, 1948. Sister Joyce was reared in Forsyth County and was the second of three children. She departed this life on September 12, 2014 at Forsyth Medical Center.

She was a graduate of Atkins High School and she further enhanced her education by receiving a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Education from North Carolina A&T State University.

Sister Joyce was employed at the Department of Social Services as a AFDC Case Worker for 26 years, a substitute teacher with the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System, and she worked at Walmart Super Store for 5 years. In all her time as an employee, she was a dedicated worker and devoted friend to all.

Outside of her work life, she had numerous activities and responsibilities. She was a foster parent to many foster children in the Guilford County Foster Care System. She participated in numerous organizations at Temple Holiness Apostolic Church. She also enjoyed working, improving, and beautifying her garden; as well as traveling and exploring new places.

She was a dedicated and devoted matriarch to her children. She was a parent that was not only tough, but fair. She was a motivation and inspiration to all the children that came her way whether they were students or her own children.

Sister Joyce was preceded in death by her parents.

Her precious memories will be cherished by her son, Dwayne Smith of Rural Hall, NC; two daughters, Yolanda Jarrett of Greensboro, NC and Alexandria Smith of Rural Hall, NC; two siblings, Judy Smith and Robert Smith, Jr. both of Winston-Salem, NC; an uncle, Dr. W. Ruffin Turner or Raleigh, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 12noon Saturday, September 20, 2014 at Temple Holiness Apostolic Church, 2218 E 22nd St W-S, NC. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 11am until 12noon on Saturday at the Church.
