Monday night, November 8, 2021 at 10:10pm another angel slipped past heavens gates. Josephine H. Townsend was a virtuous woman after God's own heart. She was a light to those around her and a fortress to her family – Josephine was a true delight. We know Jesus was God's gift to the world, but Josephine was his gift to us. Make no mistake about it, this angel will be missed.
Josephine H. Townsend was born to the late Roy C.(Irene) Hairston on March 28, 1939. She was a 1957 graduate of Carver High School. After graduation she met the love of her life, George E Townsend. They would become a testament of love through their commitment of 63 years to one another.
Josephine was a faithful member of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Through the years, pressing her way Sunday after Sunday.
Josephine was preceded in death by her parents, Roy (Irene) Hairston; a sister, Jewell Brooks; a brother, Roy Hairston, Jr.; and granddaughter, Jasmine Townsend.
She leaves behind to cherish her memories of love and grace her husband, George E. Townsend, Sr.; daughters, Alphesia Denise Townsend, Alicia Delores Brake, and Angel Renee Townsend all of Kernersville, NC; her sons, George E. (Anita) Townsend, Jr. of Raleigh NC and Roy E. (Margaret) Townsend, Sr. of Ocean Springs, MS; she leaves behind 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren scattered across the east coast; her four sisters, Peggy (Leonard) Robinson of Baton Rouge, LA, Polly (Joseph) Caldwell of Kernersville, NC, Barbara Flynt of Winston-Salem, NC, and Delores (Richard) McKnight of Columbia, SC; and a host of loving nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Thursday, November 11, 2021 at Russell Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 12noon Friday, November 12, 2021 at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend Graylin Carlton officiating. Entombment will follow in Eastlawn Gardens of Memory, Kernersville, NC. The family visitation will be held from 11:30am until 12noon on Friday at the Church.
