Josephine Delrae Lockhart

1932 – 2020

"Well done, good and faithful servant"

Mrs. Josephine Lockhart, lovingly known as Delrae, transitioned home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 6, 2020.  She was born on March 11, 1932 in Winston-Salem to Glenn and Mabel Perry.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred William Lockhart, Sr.; her sons, Fred 'Butch' and Lansing 'Red' Lockhart; and siblings, Donald and Carolyn.

She dedicated her life to her family and she and her husband raised five beautiful children.

She was educated in the Winston-Salem school system.  She retired from Brown & Williamson Tobacco Co. after 30 years of dedicated service.  She was a committed and faithful member of Phillips Chapel Baptist Church for over 50 years where she loved serving on the Senior Missionary Board.

She was known for her love of fashion, good food, word search puzzles and listening to gospel music.  She loved spending time with her family and friends and always enjoyed a good laugh.

She is survived by her children, Freda in Winston-Salem; Ronald 'Wayne' (Janet) in Winston-Salem, and Keith (Vanita) Lockhart in Diamond Bar, CA.  Her surviving legacy includes grandchildren, great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, daughters-in-law, and friends.

Special love is extended to cousin, Mildred McMullen, who Mom affectionately called 'other daughter', and 'church and shopping buddy'.  Special love to family friend, Blondell Hardin, who Mom affectionately called 'sister' and 'coffee buddy'.

Public viewing will be held on Monday, September 14, 2020 from 1:00pm - 5:00pm at Russell Funeral Home, 822 Carl Russell Avenue.  The family will have a private service on Tuesday, September 15, 2020 and the resting place will be Piedmont Memorial Gardens.

The family extends heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Southfork Senior Living Community for the loving care provided in the past year.

The family extends a special thank you to Cedric Russell and the staff at Russell Funeral Home.
